FAQ

  • What is the difference between the Finer Strings Quartet / Trio and Duo?

    A trio or duo can be a great option if you have limited space at your venue or want a more cost-effective alternative to a string quartet. While a quartet offers a fuller, richer sound and a broader repertoire, a trio or duo can still create a beautiful atmosphere with a more limited but well-balanced selection of classical and modern music, making it ideal for smaller, more intimate gatherings or relaxed settings.

  • Can you play outside?

    We are able to play outdoors from April through to October, but only if the temperature is above 18°C and no greater than 26°C.

    Additionally, we require full protection from both direct sunlight and potential rain. This is essential because our instruments are antique, fragile, and highly valuable. Exposure to direct sunlight, moisture, or sudden temperature changes can cause significant damage, costing hundreds of pounds in repairs.

    A marquee, awning, large umbrella, extended canopy or the inside of a doorway are acceptable. To perform under a tree is not acceptable cover.

    For these reasons, playing outdoors is always at the discretion of the musicians at the time of the performance, and we will discuss the specifics with you at the time of booking.

  • I would like a solo violinist for my wedding ceremony and drinks reception. What package would you recommend?

    I would recommend booking the Wedding Package plus 1 or 2 additional sets depending on the timing of the day.

  • How many breaks will you take?

    The group you book will tailor their breaks to fit the flow of your event.

    For a solo violin performance, a short break will be taken between each 40-minute set. For a quartet, trio, or duo, there will be approximately a 10-minute break per hour, which could be split into shorter breaks or combined into a longer one, depending on the schedule and needs of your event.

  • How much space and cover will the musicians need?

    Solo Violin = 2m x 2m minimum

    Duo = 2m x 1.5m minimum

    Trio = 2.5m x 2m minimum

    String Quartet = 3m x 2m minimum

  • When will the musicians arrive?

    We usually arrive around 30 minutes before our scheduled start time to set up.

  • How can we book?

    Check the pricing using our calculator, then send us an enquiry via our booking form. We will confirm our availability and provide a full quotation, contract, and booking form.

    To confirm your booking, we require a 20% non-refundable deposit. Once received, your booking will be secured, and we’ll begin regular correspondence regarding music choices and other details. Please note, we often book up far in advance—sometimes a year ahead, especially for weekends—so we recommend securing your date early. We cannot hold dates without a deposit.

    The balance is due no later than 14 days before the performance and must be received to ensure the musicians can perform on the day.

  • Can you play at more than one venue?

    Yes we often travel between more than one venue. If required this would be done within the total time period that you book us for.

  • We would like a piece of music which is not on your repertoire list?

    We can arrange it for you!

    If there's a piece not already in our repertoire, we offer a professional music arrangement service to meet your needs. We typically require at least one month's notice, and there will be an arrangement fee charged by our professional arranger. For more details, please get in touch with us.
